Mighty Jump Pocket is a product which has been around since about 2011, but it has only recently fallen into the hands of As Seen on TV giant Telebrands. The advertising claims it can jump-start your car or charge any device which accepts a USB port.
Jump-starting a car via the cigarette lighter is a technology which has existed for years. It has not always proven to be the perfect solution – with this product or any other – with a number of people stating that their car didn’t respond after waiting the appropriate time. This can be affected by a number of things, including the level of degradation or age of the battery, etc. Therefore, if you plan to get Mighty Jump Pocket purely as a way to jump-start a car, keep in mind that it may not be as effective as old-school jumper cables. It might work, and it might not.
According to an expert on About Autos, “While cigarette lighter ‘jump starters’ can’t actually provide a jump, in the traditional sense, they are perfectly capable of performing the function that they’re actually designed to perform. That, of course, is to provide the dead battery with a weak surface charge, delivered over time, which may be enough for the engine to start, provided you don’t have to crank it very long.”
