HotHands are single-use air-activated pouches which provide warmth for hours. The most well-known product in the line is the Hand Warmer packs. Additional products include an adhesive “Body Warm” pack, foot warmers, and toe warmers.
The warmers are shipped in air-tight pouches. When the pouches is opened and exposed to air, it begins to warm up and stays activated for around 7 to 9 hours, although the official FAQ states that the time can vary from 1 to 20 hours. The ingredients include iron powder, water, salt, activated charcoal and vermiculite. The pouches will produce heat ranging from 100°F to 180°F.
There appear to be two distinct groups of people who look for cold hand relief with this product: Those who expect to be exposed to the cold for an extended period, and those who suffer from Raynaud’s, a condition in which sufferers experience cold extremities due to reduced blood flow in those areas.
HotHands has been a staple of years for both groups cited above. They are small and conviently sized to fit in a pocket. Although they do get warm, the temperature isn’t hot enough to scald or produce discomfort. You can find HotHands in a variety of retailers from Target to Home Depot to Bass Pro Shops.
