Eggtastic Review

EggTastic (sometimes stylized as Egg-Tastic) is a microwave cooker which can cook up to four eggs at a time. The advertising claims that it can reduce the hassle of making scrambled eggs by offering an all-in-one solution, replacing a mixing bowl, nonstick spray, spatula, and pan.

Egg-tastic is a ceramic pot with a vented lid, which can be filled with eggs and other ingredients. The contents are microwaved to create scrambled eggs in about 1-2 minutes. One egg takes about 45-60 seconds, while 4 eggs can take 80 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on microwave wattage.

I own an EggTastic and found it to work about as advertised, with a few caveats. While the eggs may not have been quite as fluffy as those created the old-fashioned way, I feel they will be acceptable to the majority of consumers. Adding a dash of milk to the eggs before whisking helps improve overall fluffiness and texture. Perhaps the most important piece of advice I can give is to spray it with nonstick cooking spray before use. I found cleanup to be difficult without doing this first.

Most consumers will likely see the convenience of the product as worth the slight reduction in texture, although “microwaved eggs” have a reputation that some people may not be able to get past. The prospect of pulling out cookware and standing over the stove to create a small number of eggs, however, is not appealing to everyone, and Egg-Tastic is a viable solution to those consumers.

Be mindful of the fill line, as overfilling can lead to spillage. If you plan to use extra ingredients, you will have to use less than 4 eggs to keep everything under the spill line limit.

Perhaps the biggest downfall of Eggtastic is that there is no handle, and the unit can be slippery. This means you are forced to remove it from the microwave with two hands, each holding a pot holder. A cool handle would have been a nice addition.

Although the surface is said to be nonstick, I didn’t find that to be the case. As you can see in the video below, without a nonstick spray, cleaning requires elbow grease. This is made more difficult by the fact that the top is slightly smaller than the rest of the unit, which makes reaching your hand in there awkward.

Perhaps the only unexpected result is that eggs at the very bottom sometimes still seemed wet and uncooked. This seemed to happen with 3 or 4 eggs more than 1 or 2. Mixing or rearranging eggs and cooking for an additional 15-20 seconds will usually solve this problem.

Our 500+ readers have given Eggtastic a respectable 3.5 star rating. Egg purists will probably not consider such a device, but the “lazy guy” – as one commenter described himself – may enjoy it.

Similar Products

Eggtastic is quite similar to a popular As Seen on TV product which blanketed the airwaves back in 2013 called the Stone Wave Microwave Cooker. That, too, is a ceramic pot with a vented lid. Perhaps its advantage over Eggtastic is that of a handle, which allows you to easily remove it from the microwave. While that product was advertised as a multi-use cookware item, its ability to cook eggs was highlighted in the advertising. That product was also pitched by Marc Gill, and was relatively well-received. You can still sometimes find that product in the clearance section or discount chains such as Marshalls.

Epic Conclusion

Eggtastic does what it is advertised to do. Unless you are something of an egg aficionado, you will likely be satisfied with this product’s ability to create scrambled eggs quite easily. While the texture of eggs created by Eggtastic may not be quite as good as those prepared the old-fashioned way, most consumers will likely be forgiving due to the convenience of the product.

If you don’t require 4 eggs or the portability of Eggtastic, you may still be able to find a Stone Wave Microwave Cooker in stores for much less. That product sports the same basic design and functionality, and can be found for as low as $5-$10 without shipping costs or delays. It also has a design that makes it easier to clean, along with a handle that is sorely missed on Eggtastic.
